The Amon Carter Museum of American Art has recently designated Brett Abbott as the new Director of Collection and Exhibitions. Before the Amon Carter, Abbott was the Keough Family Curator of Photography and Head of Collections at the High Museum of Art.
Abbott is a specialist in 20th and 21st century American photography. His specialty will provide direction to four essential departments at the Amon Carter, including Curatorial, Conservation, Exhibition Design and Preparations Services, and Registration and will begin in late October.
Abbott has been with the High Museum of Art since 2011. In just over five years he had added 2,000 prints to the museum?s photography collection and managed more than twenty installations. He was the associate curator in the department of photographs with the Getty Museum in Los Angeles for nine years before joining the High. Abbott earned his Bachelor of Arts in Art History at Stanford University and his Master of Arts in Art History from Williams College. His research on Wynn Bullock was awarded the 2012 Ansel Adams Fellowship from the Center for Creative Photography. He also received the Lucie Award for Curator of the Year in 2010 for his exhibition?Engaged Observers: Documentary Photography since the Sixties and in 2007 for his work on Edward Weston.
