Henzel Studio is partnering with Paddle8 for an upcoming auction of the studio’s handcrafted, artist-designed rugs. A portion of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the Goss-Michael Foundation Dallas.
Since the 2014 launch of Henzel Studio Collaborations at Barneys New York on Madison Avenue during Frieze Art Fair, Henzel has developed art rugs with over thirty contemporary artists including Richard Prince, Helmut Lang, Jack Pierson, Nan Goldin, Scott Campbell, Richard Phillips, Marylyn Minter, and Anselm Reyle. Additionally, extensive collections have also been developed in collaboration with artist estates, which to date include the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Tom of Finland Foundation.

The auction will mark the unveiling of new carpets designed by Sue Webster and Tim Noble, Marilyn Minter, Jwan Yosef, Ashley Bickrton, Carsten Höller, and Tony Ourler. Jwan Yosef’s solo exhibition at G-MF last year titled Come September, presented a selection of his work emphasizing materiality and identity. In the upcoming auction, Yosef debuts two rugs titled Masking and Duct, both editions of twenty will be on view at G-MF on November 13, 2019, along with other selections.

“Art rugs have been around for quite some time in various forms, and some of the most prominent artists including Francis Bacon, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Robert Indiana, Mike Kelley, Ellsworth Kelly, Fernand Leger, Roy Lichtenstein, Henri Matisse, Joan Miro, and Pablo Picasso have all turned to the media at some point in their oeuvre. However, rather than look back, we’re looking to encapsulate facets of contemporary art and work with a curated group of artists that simultaneously express their ethos within a broad yet defined scope. Having more than fifteen leading contemporary artists to collaborate in this capacity makes Henzel Studio Collaborations an unprecedented program, even though the artisan practices remind us that the possibility has always been there,” Joakim Andreasson, curator for Henzel Studio remarks.
