Craighead Green Gallery?s New Texas Talent exhibition brings to light newly discovered artists.?Since 1994 Craighead Green Gallery has presented its annual show New Texas Talent (NTT), a statewide juried competition designed to introduce non-gallery-represented emerging visual artists to the commercial market.

This year, much to my delight, I was tapped as a juror along with esteemed gallerist Barry Whistler, known for his well-educated sharp eye. After independently reviewing over 1,000 art images submitted to the competition, Barry and I met up in July at his venerable Deep Ellum gallery to compare notes and pluck the top 50 artworks among the entries. Those 50 selections will be on view tomorrow evening, August 8, at Craighead Green Gallery in this widely attended group show.

?This year?s jurors picked an amazing body of work, consisting of 50 artworks including paintings, photos, works on paper, and sculpture,? Scot Presley, Craighead Green Gallery Director, enthused. He added,??Provencal and Whistler?paid?a great deal of attention to?detail and originality of the art.?

Through participation in the New Texas Talent exhibition, many artists have been offered representation by?other galleries?throughout the state, or have been invited to participate in future exhibitions.?Barry Whistler stated: ?We looked for work in a range of media that would offer a healthy summary of art by Texas artists. We made a conscientious effort to present a diversity of style, from figurative to abstract to sculptural. Finally, we sought artists who showed capability and promise well beyond the work they submitted to New Texas Talent.?

New Texas Talent runs through September 5 at 1101 Dragon Street in Dallas, but at these introductory price points, the selections are bound to become limited quickly.
