The Dallas Theater Center has announced that tickets are now on sale for its upcoming Public Works production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, in collaboration with the AT&T Performing Arts Center. The production will run from July 12 to August 4, 2024, at the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre. Single tickets are available at DallasTheaterCenter.org and by phone at 214-522-8499. Proceeds will support DTC’s education and community engagement programs.
The production will begin with four free performances from July 12 to July 14, made possible by The Addy Foundation, PNC Bank, and the AT&T Performing Arts Center. Free tickets will be distributed at various community partner sites throughout Dallas during the week of June 17.
“This uniquely inclusive and celebratory production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid embodies Dallas Theater Center’s belief in theater of, by, and for the people, rooted in the values of equity, imagination, and joy,” said Executive Director Kevin Moriarty.
Directed by Moriarty, with choreography by Tiana Kaye Blair and music direction by Vicky Nooe, the production will feature 15 professional actors alongside 150 community members. The cast includes Christina Austin Lopez (Ariel), Liz Mikel (Ursula), Zachary J. Willis (Sebastian), Bob Hess (King Triton), and Kevin Solis (Prince Eric).
DTC’s Public Works program partners with community organizations, schools, and government to invite people of all ages to participate in theater. “I get to share space with all ages as we work together to tell this story in a way that is unique to Dallas,” said Brandi Giles, Director of Public Works.
Since its launch in 2007, the Public Works program has aimed to blur the line between professional artists and community members, offering opportunities for community involvement in set and costume creation through free arts and crafts workshops.
“Public Works will showcase talent from every corner of our diverse city, giving performers a chance to experience theater like never before,” said Warren Tranquada, President and CEO of the AT&T Performing Arts Center.
