Dallas Arts District, collaborating with the Dallas Museum of Art, Nasher Sculpture Center, and Crow Museum of Asian Art of the University of Texas at Dallas, will present the fifth annual Dallas Arts District 2022 Pride Block Party, the largest PRIDE event in Downtown Dallas, kicking off on Friday, June 17, 2022. Due to the pandemic, the event was cancelled in 2020, returning in 2021 as a hybrid version with in-person performances, art activities, and virtual programming.
“We are excited to bring together all of the Arts District institutions and return to the excitement and energy of the Pride Block Party,” says Lily Cabatu Weiss, Executive Director of the Dallas Arts District. “The evening is an important, galvanizing occasion for members of the LGBTQ+ community and for all those that take pride in the diverse and impactful LGBTQ+ contributions to arts and culture in Dallas.”
In celebration of national LGBTQ+ Pride Month, the Dallas Arts District welcomes all to this free, inclusive event in the heart of the city for pride-themed tours, performances, film screenings, drag artists, fashion shows, gourmet food-fare, a community mural, family-friendly activities, and more.
“The Nasher is thrilled to gather with fellow Arts District institutions and return to the excitement and energy of the Pride Block Party,” says Nasher Director Jeremy Strick. “The evening is an important, galvanizing occasion for members of the LGBTQ+ community and for all those that take pride in the diverse and impactful LGBTQ+ contributions to arts and culture in Dallas.”
In 2018, this organically successful PRIDE Block Party was planned in 10 weeks with approximately 12 organizations who support arts, culture, and the LGBTQ community. In its first year, the event attracted over 20,000 visitors and survey data showed visitors coming from over 22 different zip codes, 25% out-of-state, to 20+ community planners. In 2019, the celebration was experienced by over 35,000 visitors from 144 zip codes.
The Dallas Arts District is committed to this lively intersection of arts, culture, and LGBTQ community pride scheduled for June 17, 2022. This extraordinary event will be a unique PRIDE Celebration seen through the lens of the arts and in the support of the arts and community.
