The statewide juried exhibition brings together emerging visual artists from across Texas, on view June 27–Aug. 22.

New Texas Talent returns this summer with a new group of finalists selected for the statewide juried exhibition dedicated to introducing and promoting emerging visual artists in Texas. On view June 27–Aug. 22, the annual exhibition continues its role as a point of entry for artists working across the state, placing new and developing practices in front of galleries, collectors, curators, and the broader arts community.
Conceived to support emerging artists in the commercial market, New Texas Talent invites artists from across Texas to submit work for review. Each year, a juror selects the artists who will participate in the exhibition. Over the years, inclusion in the show has led some artists to gallery representation, future exhibition opportunities, and increased visibility through regional and statewide media coverage.
This year’s juror is Daisha Board, founding director of Daisha Board Gallery in Dallas and founder of Black Sheep Art Culture, a nonprofit dedicated to amplifying the voices of historically underrepresented artists, including Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and creators with disabilities. Through both organizations, Board has created platforms where artists, collectors, and communities intersect through exhibitions, arts education, public art initiatives, artist residencies, and the annual UNREPPED Art Fair.

Board brings a strong curatorial and advocacy-driven perspective to this year’s exhibition. Over the course of her career, she has curated more than 40 exhibitions and placed works by local artists into the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art, the African American Museum of Dallas, the Black Chamber of Commerce, and corporate collections across the country. She has also served as a juror for exhibitions and competitions including the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives Visual Arts Guild, Artspace 111, The Other Art Fair in Los Angeles and Brooklyn, Art 214, and the Dallas Mavericks Black History Month competition.

A recipient of the Business Council for the Arts Obelisk Award, Board currently serves on the AT&T Performing Arts Center Advisory Board and the Oak Cliff Society of Fine Art board. She holds a BA in Political Science and African American Studies from Bethune-Cookman University.
This year’s finalists are Forrest Aderholt, Dare Akinwole, Gerald Bell, Kenneth Bowers, Aleah Burns, Wes Coke, Caryn Constantinides, Crystal Coulter, Ariel Davis, Bharathi Dev, Alison Donaldson, Jaymes Earl, Mary Grace Eubank, Tatiana Escallon, Fathima Farha, Estefania Flores, Desiree Griffith, Hailey Harvey, Lindsay Hawkins, Thomas Helmick, Manuel Herrera, Lawrence Jolly, Norman Kary, Zach Kidwell, Alison Ledbetter, Ivette Gabriela Ramos Levy, Kevron Madden, Yasuyo Maruyama, Donovan Martinez, Christopher Sonny Martinez, Claudia Maysen, Gwen Meharg, Adriane McMillon, Lindsey Millikan, Conrad Nkamwesiga, Zuri Perle, Maria Rasheed, Susan Raine, Gertraud Reed, Chuck Russell, Eric Shaw, Purvi Shah, Madison Smith, Jessie Kennedy Steinberg, Sam Swihart, Mandla Senzanje, Joe Turner, Andrew Whited, Jillian Whitney, and Audrianna Woods.

Together, the finalists offer a broad view of emerging practice in Texas now. Rather than presenting a single idea of what Texas art looks like, New Texas Talent gathers a range of perspectives, materials, and approaches, making space for artists at different stages of visibility and development.
As the exhibition returns, its purpose remains direct: to introduce artists to new audiences and to create opportunities for their work to be seen, considered, and placed in conversation with the larger contemporary art landscape.
