Nasher Public presents new stacked metal sculptures by Oshay Green
The Nasher Sculpture Center continues its commitment to elevating North Texas artists with the latest installment of Nasher Public, featuring six new works by Oshay Green, on view in the museum’s free Public Gallery through February 1, 2026.
In this untitled body of work, Green extends his ongoing practice of scrap-metal assemblage, sourcing discarded industrial materials from Dallas–Fort Worth salvage yards. Each sculpture rises as a vertical stack of cast-iron fragments, unwelded, unaltered, and held together by nothing more than balance and gravity. The forms are precarious, almost breathing, their equilibrium evoking both the endurance and fragility of the human body.
Installed as a community of six on a shared platform, Green’s totemic columns channel a lineage of sculptural ancestors: Louise Bourgeois’s carved Personages, Thaddeus Mosely’s jazz-inflected wooden forms, Isamu Noguchi’s self-supporting constructions, and Constantin Brancusi’s Endless Column. Yet Green’s approach is rooted as much in sound as in structure. A former sound engineer, he likens the stacking process to building a looping track on a MIDI sequencer, each move a rhythmic response to the last, improvising toward harmony.
The result is a kind of sculptural score. Hanging alongside the works is a set of performance instructions: “REPEAT / LOOP / FIND YOUR GROOVE / SET YOUR OWN TEMPO,” accompanied by a drum notation that invites translation from object to sound, from structure to beat.
By drawing from the overlooked materials of his surroundings, Green transforms industrial remnants into meditations on presence, memory, and vibration. His sculptures resonate like instruments of silence, their weight countered by an uncanny sense of lift.
Green’s participation in Nasher Public marks a return to familiar ground; his 2021 installation Mundane Egg—a welded-steel mandorla embedded with obsidian—stood outside The Power Station in Fair Park. Represented by Dvir Gallery in Paris and Ramiken in New York, Green continues to explore how matter holds rhythm, how form becomes frequency, and how sculpture, like sound, is ultimately an act of listening.
