?A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.? This oft-retold Greek Proverb is the inspiration for Valley House Gallery?s upcoming exploratory exhibition Trees opening this Saturday, August 19 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Trees contains a wide variety of drawings, paintings, and sculptures centered on nature including works by Jack Barnett, Vera Barnett, Lu Ann Barrow, Kathy Boortz, Lloyd Brown, Lindy Chambers, John Cobb, Brian Cobble, Robert Cocke, David A. Dreyer, David Everett, Phil Evett, David FeBland, Henry Finkelstein, Barnaby Fitzgerald, and many more.

Feast of Lights 2000

Two lectures are planned in conjunction with the exhibition: Native Plants for Birds by Dr. Tania Homayoun, Urban Biologist, Dogwood Canyon, Wednesday, August 23, at 7:00 p.m. and A Passion for Texas Native Trees by Tary Arterburn, Principal, Studio Outside, Thursday, August 31, 7:00 p.m. There is also a planned Tour of Dogwood Canyon for Valley House patrons, Saturday, September 2, 10:00 a.m. The show remains on view through September 16.
Trees offers refuge from a week of chaos and allows for reflection on aspects of nature and society that we often take for granted while inspiring thoughts of endurance for generations forward.
