Nasher Sculpture Center’s annual fundraising event, The Great Create, returns for its fifth year on Sunday, April 23. Chaired by Flauren and Jason Bender and Janelle and Alden Pinnell, the garden party encourages families to engage their artistic talents in a day of fun to help raise funds to benefit the Nasher’s educational programs.
The annual event aims to celebrate and encourage art education for young children by creating an environment tailored to kids 12 and younger to participate in hands-on art activities and workshops. Teens ages 13 and older are invited to serve as “Art Ambassadors” to assist the artists and younger children. During the Sunday event artists from around the world will gather in Nasher Garden to lead the programming. Artists participating include: The Color Condition (Marianne Newsom and Sunny Sliger), Jeff Gibbons, Diamond Gray, Travis La Mothe, Catherine Macmahon, Nic Mathis, Charles Mayton, Shamsy Roomiani, Allison V. Smith and Liz Trosper.
Proceeds from The Great Create: By Artists. For Kids. gives the Nasher Sculpture Center an opportunity to offer outstanding youth programs throughout the year including: 3:01 Club After-school Program, Summer Institute for Teens, and free student tours. Thirty-three percent of the institution’s attendance comes through these education initiatives.
Live entertainment, kid-friendly food and a host of art activities make The Great Create a can’t-miss family event on Sunday, April 23 from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Nasher Sculpture Center located at 2001 Flora Street.
