The Arts Community Alliance, TACA, has announced that Gene Jones and Joe Hubach will be honored as this year’s 45th TACA Silver Cup Award recipients, presented by JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Texas Instruments. This year’s 2023 TACA Silver Cup luncheon will take place on Wednesday, May 3, at the Omni Dallas Hotel.
For over four decades, the TACA Silver Cup Award Luncheon has celebrated two Dallas volunteers and advocates who have made significant contributions to the city’s arts and culture landscape. Co-chairs for this year’s event are Elaine Agather, Chairman of the Dallas Region for JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Andy Smith, Director of Giving & Volunteering for TI and Executive Director of the TI Foundation.
“Gene Jones and Joe Hubach have contributed immeasurably to arts and culture in North Texas, and we are all richer for it,” said Maura Sheffler, Interim Donna Wilhelm Family President & Executive Director of TACA. “Both 2023 TACA Silver Cup recipients give selflessly of their time, talent, and gifts to elevate and prioritize the arts in our area, and we look forward to shining a much-deserved spotlight on them.”
Agather remarked as a co-chair, “We are thrilled to once again serve as co-presenting sponsor of this special TACA event to recognize individuals whose contributions to the vibrancy of arts and culture in Dallas are truly incomparable. Serving as co-chair of the event is an added honor for me. Both Gene Jones and Joe Hubach epitomize the selfless commitment of arts philanthropy in our community. They are more than deserving of the TACA Silver Cup Award.”
Andy Smith follows up, stating: “TI is excited to serve as a co-presenting sponsor for this year’s TACA Silver Cup, and I look forward to serving as co-chair. I’m especially proud that honoree Joe Hubach is a distinguished TI alum and friend who, through his service to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and other arts organizations, as well as trustee of the Eugene McDermott Foundation, exemplifies our company’s spirit of giving back and making our community stronger.”
Gene Jones has spent a lifetime in the pursuit of helping others. Under her enthusiastic direction, the Jones Family has taken a major leadership role in their involvement with The Salvation Army at the local and national levels. (You’ve probably seen the giant red kettle prominent at Dallas Cowboys games.) Additionally, Jones has played a key role in the design and construction of AT&T Stadium in Arlington—the home of America’s Team.
Jones’ vision and commitment to the arts are responsible for the Dallas Cowboys Art Collection, which includes 93 paintings, sculptures, and photographs by 63 artists, including 118 specially commissioned pieces: world renowned contemporary at AT&T Stadium and The Star in Frisco. The collection houses work by Trenton Doyle Hancock, Eva Rothschild, Doug Aitken, Jim Campbell, and Anish Kapoor-among many others. A dedicated supporter of the arts, Mrs. Jones is a member of the Board of Directors for the Dallas Museum of Art, AT&T Performing Arts Center, and the Texas Cultural Trust Board. Her community service and support also include the Southern Methodist University Board of Trustees; co-chair of the executive board for the Meadows School for the Arts; The Board of Directors for the John G. Tower Center for Political Studies at SMU; George W. Bush Institute Woman’s Initiative Advisory Council; Children’s Medical Center of Dallas Board of Trustees; National Leadership Co-Chair of the Medal of Honor Museum and Monument Project, and an involved member of Sweetheart Ball. Gene is the mother of three successful children – Stephen, Charlotte and Jerry, Jr. – and the proud grandmother of nine. Gene’s husband, Jerry, has been the owner, president, and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys since 1989. The two married in 1963 after a blind date set up by friends at the University of Arkansas.
Joe Hubach is the retired Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Texas Instruments, having worked at TI for more than 30 years. Joe and his wife, Colleen O’Connor, have long been dedicated supporters of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Joe has been on the Executive Board of the DSO’s governing association since 2010 and served a four-year term as Chairman of the Board ending in the fall of 2017. Hubach has also served on the Board of Directors of the Dallas Symphony Foundation since 2018. In addition, he serves as a trustee of the Eugene McDermott Foundation, the private foundation based in Dallas established by TI founder Eugene McDermott and his wife Margaret McDermott, which provides critical financial support for arts and culture, education, and general community interests. Joe is also a member of the Executive Board of the Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts.
