This Saturday, Dallas welcomes an exciting new nonprofit, contemporary art exhibit space called SITE131. Entrepreneur Seth Davidow has teamed up with Joan Davidow, his mother and legendary arts professional, to bring this new art space to the Dallas art scene. The mother-son team will present four exhibitions each year showing the work of under-recognized artists who address similar issues, concerns, or ways of working. Curator Joan Davidow plans to bring artists from local Texas cities and beyond. Engaging everyone from the seasoned art enthusiasts to new audiences; the mission of SITE131 is to foster new ways to look at contemporary art.?
Layering: different strokes will be the opening exhibit featuring work by Lauren Muggeo, of New York, as well as Marjorie Schwarz and Art Pe?a, from Texas. The three artists will present their artwork that entails very different ways of applying paint. Kevin Ruben Jacobs, Dallas arts professional, will later address the artwork in a scholarly essay.
Seth Davidow, a committed art collector, is currently pursuing his newest endeavor of repurposing old buildings with this new art spot located at 131 Payne Street on the west side of the Dallas Design District. SITE131 will occupy part of a newly restored 1950 early Trammel Crow industrial warehouse. Seth said, ?I wanted to create, together with my mother, a venue to engage her passion of unveiling new art and making contemporary art accessible to other young collectors.? North Texas will benefit from this generous addition to the city?s contemporary art collection.
